A Gate

Yesterday's Montchauvet and Real blogs inspired me to find a gate of my own to photograph. I used to live near this house and would sometimes walk by and wonder what its history was and who lived there since it is older and more traditional and grander by far than most of the surrounding houses. This is a side gate. The inset area at the top of the gate is made of ocotillo stems lined up vertically.

What a beautiful picture! That looks like such a shady place for a hot day.

I love this photo - it has such character! I like seeing the mix of greenery. Thanks for the note on the work involved for the gate, I wouldn't have noticed. Are there many unpaved roads in the area?

Thanks guys! Its a very handsome cactus, even for Tucson. To me it almost looks like somewhere exotic, like the Canary Islands. Nerissa, shade has a special quality here, almost like water, especially in the summer. Felicia, thanks for the question. Its in a central Tucson neighborhood. Our unpaved roads are mostly in the desert on the outskirts of town.
