Climbers at Windy Point

Taken at Windy Point which is the main tourist stopoff driving up the Mt Lemmon Highway. Also popular with climbers and morticians. In the latter case as a place to distribute ashes when the deceased didn't specify a place.

The climbers were mostly posing for photos on this particular occasion. Not for me, for a woman standing a bit in front of me carrying a camera with a lens as long as her arm. I had fun taking photos of them anyway.

I thought you were joking about the morticians. I suspect in addition to distributing ashes they may be need by unlucky climbers.

Your "Saguaro" photo from May 21st was menacing with an interesting perspective. I liked the clouds as well.

Thanks Mark and Denton. Nooo I don't climb. Denton, a mortician told me that. Re unlucky climbers, its a popular climbing location and sadly there have been accidents. And the occasional body found down below so probably suicides. Thanks for the comment on the saguaro.

If something is called "windy point" then surely being this high up is never a good idea?!!!

Hi Chris - Its windy ALL the time. Its funny I used to avoid stopping there because its touristy and often the view is rather hazy. But this trip showed me it can be dynamite for people photos and at the right time of day the light is really spectacular. Plus it was nice to climb down into the rocks below the tourist overlook and just watch the ravens and swifts doing aerial acrobatics out over the void.
